Short Description:

This Glow Sheeting is provided by Extreme Glow.

The product is a plastic-like sheet of glow-in-the-dark material made from Strontium Aluminate with Europium as an activator. This is the "next generation" in glow-in-the-dark product chemical technology. Unlike the older glow-in-the-dark materials (made with Zinc Sulfide with Copper as an activator), these new products glow for many hours, emitting a very bright visible greenish glow.

The sheeting comes with a removable protective clear plastic layer on top and an adhesive backing. The sheeting can be cut with regular scissors into any shape desired. The adhesive is moderately strong.

The sheeting is activated by exposure to light and can be used over and over.

Do you think you could find this light in the dark?

Reviewer's Impressions:

This is not the same glow-in-the-dark stuff you played with as a kid. This stuff is pretty serious!

Even when exposed to ambient room lighting at night the glow easily lasts till morning. To try out this product I held a sample (sample #1) about 6" above a 300 Watt halogen lamp for 10 seconds. Another sample (sample #2) was left exposed only to the ambient room lighting.

After activating, sample #1 was so bright it lit up the entire dark room with a green glow which diminished fairly rapidly. Sample #2 emitted a soft glow. 10 hours later both samples were glowing at about the same level and were clearly visible in a dark room.

The applications for this product are almost limitless. As you can see above, I have placed a couple of small pieces on a flashlight. In the event of a power outage, this light would be very easy to find. Likewise you can adhere pieces of the sheeting to light switches, breaker boxes, camping gear, etc.

The adhesive is pretty good on this sheeting, but I would place it in areas that don't encounter too much friction (handling, etc.) for fear of the pieces of sheeting coming loose. On flashlights I would put it in-between the ridges on the light body (if exist). Clear packing tape could be wrapped over the top of the glow sheeting to help hold it down and protect it. The adhesive does seem resistant to water.

I see no reason why this product couldn't replace those electroluminescent marker night-lights you plug in your hallway sockets. Just cut out a piece in the shape of the socket cover. When you turn on the hallway light to go to bed the glow sheeting should charge up and glow all night. Or just stick a piece to the wall above a socket or light switch.

Note that the larger the piece of sheeting used in an application, the easier it will be to see in the dark.

UPDATE Sept, 2003: Extreme glow stopped selling this for a while, but they once again have it in stock. Personally, I have a small piece of glowsheeting on every lightswitch plate in the house. It makes for quick and easy identification of the switches in the dark Very useful stuff!
