May
29, 2007: A couple of HID updates!
Pacific Tactical Solutions has a new
24
Watt compact HID, and PowerLEDs.de
will soon have available a new super
compact 10 Watt HID.
I
am still using the original
Warrior 10W sent by PowerLEDs.de
and have found both 4x123A and 8x123A
battery compartments for it, allowing
1 or 2 hrs runtime with disposable
cells for use in the field. I really
like these lights because of their
intensity, great spotting ability,
compact size and surprisingly long
runtimes relative to their enormous
output.
May 27, 2007: Just recieved
word that CandlePowerForums is still
undergoing a major upgrade... in the
meantime, you CPF regulars can can
rest and relax with everyone at the
"Temporary CPF Lounge" found
on EDC
Forums!
Here's
a handy link: Flashlight
Holsters compatability table from
Ripoffs. (I still don't get why anyone
would name their company "ripoffs"...).
May
26, 2007: Here's a cool video
that was found on MetaCafe: "Make
a $100 super bright cop Flashlight
for less than $10" (The
link to this video is for educational
purposes only. FlashlightReviews.com's
owner is not the maker of this video
and is not responsible if you attempt
this modification and injure or damage
anyone or anything to any extent whatsoever.)
May
25, 2007: CandlePowerForums is
down, in case you were wondering.
They are performing some upgrades.
It looks like the Underground is down
as well. In the meantime you can visit
the Flashlight
Forums.
World
Tools has contacted me about their
offering of Inova flashlights. They
are currently advertising 20% off
their line of Inova flashlights if
you would like to check them out.
May 09, 2007: Both the Fenix
P3D and the LumaPower M3 Transformer
have been received. Reviews are coming.
First impressions are quite good.
The P3D is very bright and the M3
(with optional turbohead and two reflectors)
allows for 18 different possible configurations
by swapping the heads, reflector,
body tubes, and tailcaps.
May
02, 2007: I have recently been
in contact with Lumapower and will
be recieving one of their M3 Transformer
lights for review. I'd call this a
"kit light" because it has
so many options due to its modular
design. The M3 can morph into almost
any light you need with its regular
head, turbo head (smooth and textured
reflectors), 1xAA, 2xAA, 1x123A body
tubes, 2 stage tailcap, and single
stage tactical tailcap. Internally
it has 2 output levels, and using
the two stage tailcap gives it a third
level. Light is produced by a power
module with integrated Cree XR-E LED.
Yo, Canadians! Pass the Molson, eh?
I just received an email from Fenix
Canada where you can get your
Fenix flashlights, listed in CA$ and
with free shipping. Ya crazy Canuks!
Apr 17 , 2007: The P2D came
in and I was able to put together
the review for this one rather quickly
since it's really just an L1D/L2D
powered with a 123A cell. Conditional
rating of 5 Stars, pending runtimes.
All that was needed were new pictures
and the throw and output numbers updated,
with runtimes coming soon. I really
like the 123A body form factor since
it provides the power of the L2D with
a size that is smaller than an L1D,
plus the versatility of the LxD circuitry.
I do believe that this is THE light
I've been waiting for. As far as I'm
concerned, the quest is over for my
perfect EDC (Every Day Carry) light.
Sorry, Peak Caribbean, but I'm afraid
you will finally be retired to the
desk drawer!
Apr 11 , 2007: Reviews have
come to a stand-still for now. Sorry!
Too little time (and energy) to devote
to this right now.
Mar
23, 2007: Finally - two new reviews
added! Donations page updated - Thank
you everyone!
Not
much else to report. Remember to keep
up with the latest flashlight related
news at FlashlightNews.org!

Mar 02, 2007: I should have
the HuntLight FT01XSE done soon. Big
thanks to Steve T. S. for the very
generous snail-mail donation!
Feb
24, 2007: So much for the site
being semi-retired.... Sheesh. Three
(well, essentially four) new reviews
posted plus an update to the LumaHunter
M1 - added the missing throw numbers
for the 18650 powered output. Don't
get used to the quick succession of
updates - the Huntlight is going to
take a while.
Feb
18, 2007: Ever wonder how well
those chemical lightsticks fare compared
to flashlights? Very Poorly. Please
see the Fakes,
Frauds, and Fallacies page for more
information.
Feb
07 , 2007: Big thank you to everyone
who has sent donations to help keep
the site running. Recent thanks go out
to Greg B., Adam R., Lewis S., and James
G. who sent donations via US mail.
URGENT
WARNING: Fake Surefire U2 flashlights
are appearing on the market. They are
almost exact copies in appearance (only).
Functionally and quality-wise, they
are sub-par. Please see the Fakes,
Frauds, and Fallacies page for more
information. Don't get scammed!
Feb
01 , 2007: The preview of the two
hand squeeze lights is done. I received
a LumaPower M1 Hunter Cree light for
review and will work on it next. I have
added a special review table for Cree
and Seoul high efficiency LEDs, available
from the LED selection menu at the top
(there's only one entry at this time...)
Jan
24, 2007: I have received two prototype
hand squeeze lights which are designed
to be a very inexpensive human-powered
rechargeable LED flashlight. Pumping
the handle recharges what appears to
be small cluster of NiMH cells inside.
Considering the cost, so far they look
pretty good. Better than those junk
crank lights and fake hand pump lights.
More to come!
Jan 17, 2007: The Fenix L2P
has unfortunately been discontinued,
but it's hard to keep a good light down!
Check out Giga International for the
L2P
Version 2.0. Unfortunately I will
not be reviewing this light, but if
anyone would like to send me their impressions,
please feel free!
Jan
01, 2007: Happy New Year! I've
been doing some serious poking around
in the collection and found this
little critter. After playing with
it for a while I have again realized
what a nice
little light it is. Although nothing
super special, I just plain think it's
cute. Plus it's on sale right now for
about $11 and really has a good runtime
and output for 1 AAA.
It
appears that with the new year, I am
not the only one cutting back (See Dec
26, 2006 News and What's New entry).
One of my favorite daily newspaper cartoons,
FoxTrot,
will no longer be daily. The author
is cutting back to Sundays only. He
says in the
press release "...I think its
time I got out of the house and tried
some new things." My friend, I
know how you feel.
